“Cuticle shadow” is the subtlest manicure trend you should try

The comeback of the classic French tip is a sign that manicures don’t have to be #extra to catch someone’s attention. It also seems like elaborate nail art is going to take a backseat thanks to the newest trend: “cuticle shadow.”

This was coined by Instagram nail art guru and owner of Unistella in South Korea, Eun Kyung Park. Yesterday, she posted photos of her nude manicure adorned with jewelry and pink shimmer from her cuticles down to her fingers. She told “Allure” that she’s been loving “doing makeup on my nails and hands” because of Rue from “Euphoria” (played by Zendaya). In the show, Rue sported a glittery eye look, which prompted Eun Kyung to do cuticle shadows.

You may be thinking, “Why should I add highlighter to my cuticles?” Well, it’s a subtle trick that will give your manicure an extra oomph, especially if you have a nude or muted nail polish shade. You can apply the highlight, wash it off at the end of the day, then apply another shade tomorrow.

If you want to get into this beauty trend, shop the items below.

Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil

Fenty Beauty isn’t one to scrimp on highlighters. The new Diamond Bomb is described as having “a 3D glittering veil, delivering pure, show-stopping sparkle all over the face and body.” It’s ultrafine and easy to dust on the fingers, and it also has an icy white shimmer that stands out in a photo and in person. Available on Sephora PH.

Colourette Shimmertint in Rose Quartz

The great thing about liquid highlighters is you can apply small amounts on your cuticle without using a brush. This one from Colourette has a shimmery pink shade with a gold shift. Available at SM North EDSA.

Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold

This highlighter from Maybelline is known for its metallic glow finish. If you want to add a golden sheen to your cuticles, get Molten Gold, which will give you a seamless and non-powdery shimmer. Available at select Watsons stores.

Max Factor Miracle Glow Pro Universal Highlighter

Max Factor’s universal liquid highlighter has a pink hue in the bottle, but when it’s blended, it becomes a subtle glow that complements any skin tone. It has a lightweight formula, non-sticky, and buildable depending on how much glow you want with your manicure. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

3ina The Highlighter 201

For a bronze shade, use The Highlighter 201 from 3ina. It’s made with micronized mineral powder so it doesn’t look cakey when applied, and it has a glow-from-within finish. When you apply this on your cuticles, it won’t register too bronze but it will glow under the light. Available at SM Makati.
