I used to love getting manicures but for the past year or so, I found that I don’t have the time do get it done regularly anymore. Also, I’d rather spend that money on food, to be honest. So, I’ve started doing them myself again. Back in high school, I got obsessed with nail polish and would put some on during the weekends because it wasn’t allowed in school. At some point, I actually got really good at it and would paint my nails perfectly. I’m happy to say that I still can.
Recently, I have been doing my nails at my desk at work. No, it isn’t as uncommon as you think. This is a great activity for when you’re on break or need to step away from deliverables because of mental blocks. Want to start doing a quick and easy manicure at work too? Here are the tools you need. I included some personal tips too.
Anny Pink Manicure Buffer
Before you apply anything, prep your nails. Give them a quick file just to make sure the shape is clean and even. You can also use the buffer side to remove any harsh edges. This will also add some shine to your nails. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.
Happy Skin Nail Rebuilder Serum Natural Color + Treatment
I always start with a base coat when I do my manicure. This is the exact one that I use too. I have naturally weak nails, so this helps create a barrier and protects my nails. It also treats brittleness and yellowing. It has a pinkish hue so you can also wear this on its own. This is also good for when you’re going on a beach trip since it has UV protection. Available at Glorietta 4.
Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Fashion
Once your base is dry, go in with your main color. For something subtle, go for this taupe shade. The polish is also enriched with biotin and green tea extract, making it less harmful for your nails. Apply this guilt-free because these weren’t tested on animals either. Available at Beauty Bar branches.
Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish in Berry In Love
For a more vampy and bold shade, try out this deep berry polish. This is actually part of their bridal collection but you don’t need to be getting married to rock this shade. Sitting at your desk or heading a pitch meeting are enough reasons to have this color on your nails too. Available online.
Cutex Manicure Correction Nail Polish Remover Pen
It’s hard to stay within the lines when you’re painting with your non-dominant hand, so be careful. However, if you just so happen to slip up, don’t worry about it. In this case, acetone will be your best friend. But, don’t bother fussing with a bottle and cotton pads, just pick up one of these acetone pens. Ah, what a time to be alive. Available on Amazon.
H&M Beauty Nail Polish in All Clear
Let the nail polish dry for a bit before applying a final coat. It’s always good to finish with a clear coat. This will protect the color and keep everything intact. It will also give it a shiny finish—the best part if you ask me. Available at SM Megamall.
Hello Gorgeous Unicorn Elixir
The drying process will probably be the most tricky, especially if you’re at work. One trick I learned from nail technicians is to dab a small amount of oil on the nail. This makes the surface slippery and less likely to get dented. This elixir will also be good for your cuticles since it has rosehip oil, avocado oil, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Available on Calyxta.
Heima Olive Room Spray
No one likes the smell of nail polish so be mindful of that. What I like to do is take breaks in between coats to let the smell subside. Once you’re done, freshen up the scent of the office with this room spray. This one from Heima is one of my favorites. The olive smell is addicting. Available online.
