More people are subscribing to crystals’ healing properties. Jeweler Paul Syjuco isn’t of these people, but admits his home feels different because of his amethyst geode.
“I have a tray of crystals. I have quartz, obsidian, and spinel—stones that people give to me,” Paul tells us. He might be skeptical of healing crystals, but he did take inspiration from organic gemstones and crystals for his newest 80-piece collection.
Aptly named “Cristal,” Paul says he took inspiration from a crystal’s “form and what you find inside.” He tells us this as he turns the pages of his gemology book (fun fact: he’s a trained gemologist) to show us the clean crystalline structure of various gemstones. “I was trying to make [the pieces] like a crystal because it looks so light, more feminine, and bright,” he says.
Cristal will feature earrings, clustered rings, stackable bracelets, and statement necklaces made with a mix of precious stones: diamonds, sapphires, lavender jade, and Tahitian pearls, among others. Unlike his previous collections which were bolder and inspired by certain art movements, Paul wanted this to be more wearable and minimalist.
“They’re not chunky. I think it’s more [suited for] day-to-night. It’s really more wearable and not something you’d buy as an investment,” he says.
So whether you’re going to a casual get-together or attending a formal event, there’s a piece for every woman with gemstones of varying hues. You might not believe in healing crystals like Paul Syjuco, but these accessories can be incorporated to your daily wardrobe if you want to.

The Cristal collection will be available at Aum by Paul Syjuco boutiques from Oct. 8 to 12 at Peninsula Manila, and Oct. 15 to 19 at TriNoma Mall. We also asked the designer if he has any plans for the next one.
“Right now, [the next theme] is blank. It just comes to me whenever I travel or read,” he says. “No definite plans yet, but maybe I’ll do a small capsule collection for early next year.”
