From colorful stones to pearls, Jul B. Dizon knows how to put them together to create beautiful jewelry pieces. Yesterday marked their 40th anniversary and they celebrated by focusing on her iconic designs. Entering the front area of the ballroom, white sheets were hanging from the ceiling with photos and messages printed on them. Written on one of them was, “A jeweller ahead of her time, Jul B. Dizon was the very best kind of designer, one who delighted the senses by using a melange of unexpected gems and forms, whose important designs stayed true to herself.”
Aside from her past designs we were able to “discover also the modern and unique creations from the next generation of jewelry designers of the Dizon family. Cedric, Candy, Christopher, Janina, Ginny, and Lucille, taking inspiration from Jul’s timeless pieces.”
Her children created one of a kind pieces segregated into six categories. We were able to interview Candy Dizon to get more insight on the collection. “Those are my mom’s iconic designs and then the siblings sort of just did our own interpretation of her iconic designs.” She also talked about the different materials that they used. “She really loved working with fleurs so we have the Jardin [pieces]. We have our own interpretation of her usual design but we used the flower theme. We also did her pearls because she won an award for a pearl competition. So, we also did our own version using the material.”
The jewelry ranges from necklaces, bracelets, and earrings but Candy’s favorite is the Vuelo brooch. “I probably will go with my hummingbird [brooch] because when she passed away, we got her an urn which had a hummingbird engraved on it so whenever we see or think of a hummingbird, we think of her. So, I kind of immortalized that idea into the hummingbird brooch, which is also using aquamarines and leaves, which she was very fond of.”
Among the pieces showcased above, which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments section.
