Fashion labels are also taking action against climate change at Paris Fashion Week (PFW).
For Dior’s SS20 collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri presented looks inspired by dried blooms and with vine-like details woven across burlap skirts and dresses. The runway was also an enchanted forest created with 164 trees wrapped in burlap, which will be planted in Paris as part of their sustainability initiative.
The fashion house recruited Filipino photojournalist Hannah Reyes Morales to take group shots before the show. She is known for documenting people affected by inequality, poverty, and impunity. She received “National Geographic” and the GroundTruth Project grants to document the lives of marginalized Filipinos. She is also a GroundTruth Climate Change Fellow, which allows her to cover the human impact of climate change.
In a short video on Dior’s Instagram page, Hannah talks about being tapped to shoot at PFW. “I was very surprised when they asked me to do the group shot. It was just interesting to see how, you know, my process in photojournalism is worlds away from the processes of how people are doing fashion. But at the same time, seeing how we can collaborate and how we can cross-pollinate.”
The photographer definitely captured the floral ensembles against the runway’s foliage, which she calls “a breathing set.”
