Local beaded bags you need in your wardrobe

Beaded bags caught our attention back in 2018, but it didn’t stop there. It’s almost 2020, and you’ll still find some beaded bags that come in different designs and colors, most of them from our local designers. Since more people are now opting to buy local products, local artists are catching up on the trend as well. We’ve seen beaded bags on the arms of influencers like Melissa Gatchalian, and even in one of the photoshoots of Sunnies Face.

There have been lots of new trends in bags this year, from micro-bags to puffer bags. Clearly, the fashion market is flooded with more choices than ever. And although beaded bags became popular during the ’80s to ’90s, designers are bringing them back again, as if to prove that it should be a lasting accessory.

Here are some local beaded bags you should check out:

Island Girl

A Boracay-based brand, Island Girl specializes in products that are hand-crafted and from indigenous materials. Shells and wooden beads were used for this envelope clutch, which you can use as a wallet, a shoulder bag, or a belt bag. Available online.

Bondi Studios

The Casey
The Scotty

Bondi Studios wants their products to be “pleasing to look at” and they do not disappoint. They are famous for their beaded products, from hair clips to headbands to earrings. The Casey Bag can be used as a cellphone case; while The Scotty is for casual strolls or parties. Available online.

From Blank

We can’t get enough of these colorful beaded bags! The brand, which was started by three friends who met while working at Sunnies Studios, offers different bag designs. They have phone cases, jelly bags, and tote bags that you can use for your daytime and evening looks. Available online.

Undo Clothing

Undo clothing was founded in 2010 by Kyla Zuñiga. Their staple pieces are sustainable. As of now, they only have one beaded bag available: the Alexa Bag, which is made of acrylic beads. You can also get items from Bondi Studios’  website. Available online or at UNDO Studio, White Plains, Quezon City.

Seek the Uniq

This bag, which has a watermelon theme, has a strap that is detachable so you can easily turn it into a pouch. Seek the Uniq has more bags that you can choose from, including tote bags, rattan bags, and basket bags. Available online.

Style Cat

Style Cat is an eco-ethical fashion line that is always “ready to make a statement.” They have a beaded bag collection called “Freedom.” Last August, they partnered with Manila City Jail in making beaded bags to support its livelihood program. Whether the bags sell out or not, the inmates were still given income, depending on how long they make it. Available at Retail Lab, Power Plant Mall.
