Here’s news that is sure to brighten up your day: We’re finally going to get a “Love, Simon” sequel.
In a recent tweet, author Becky Albertalli announced that she will be releasing a novella titled “Love, Creekwood” on June 30. The story will be expanding the Simonverse trilogy and taking place after “Leah on the Offbeat.”
Although shorter than her prior works, Albertalli promises “shenanigans, exclamation points, yearning, Drunk Simon, Nostalgic Blue, Finals Week Abby, Valentine’s Day Leah, big decisions and MUCH talk of kissing.” She also mentioned that the book will be “all emails” and “set during the gang’s first year of college.” We’re pretty excited.
Right in time for Pride Month, Albertalli revealed that she will be donating 100 percent of her English language royalty advance to The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing suicide prevention programs for LGBTQ+ youth. The longtime ally shared about the importance of the group’s work and added how there’s been a “huge spike in the volume of crisis calls due to COVID-19.”
That’s not the only sequel we’re looking forward to. A Hulu spinoff series called “Love, Victor” is set to be released in the same month. You don’t have to fear any spoilers because this one takes place after “Love, Creekwood” and focuses on a new student named Victor. Nick Robinson, who starred as Simon in the movie, produced and narrates the series.
We have high hopes for the upcoming book sequel. It’s about time for more LGBTQ+ media to get wide releases and for us to get more diversity in mainstream LGBTQ+ narratives.
