Here’s the TWICE starter guide you’re looking for

We’re all excited as we wait for TWICE to release their YouTube Originals documentary, “TWICE: Seize The Light.” According to their press conference earlier, fans can  expect a lot of behind-the-scenes clips of their “TWICELIGHTS” world tour. The documentary will also feature some tweaked versions of their performances, which is usually seen in their concerts.

I’ve been a huge fan of TWICE since 2017—two years after their debut. Back then, it was much easier to catch up with all the details about our nine favorite girls. For most of my friends who are just starting to get on the TWICE train, here are some fun facts you might want to know as a new ONCE:

Jihyo, Nayeon and Jeongyeon almost debuted before TWICE

6MIX was supposed to be JYP’s next girl group after Miss A. It was supposed to be composed by Jihyo (then Jisoo), Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Minyoung (who also competed to be on TWICE), Lena and Cecilia (other former JYP trainees). However, Lena and Cecilia left the company to pursue acting in the US and China. The two were supposed to be replaced by Sana but their debut was cancelled altogether.

They were formed through a reality show called “Sixteen”

Unlike most groups which are pre-selected by their own entertainment companies, TWICE members were chosen through the survival reality show “Sixteen” by JYP. Much like the recent idol-generating shows we all came to know, “Sixteen” tests the  trainees’ progress during their stay in the company. There’s also special audience participation wherein people can vote for who deserves to be part of the new girl group.

Jihyo trained the longest under JYP Entertainment

The “god Jihyo” we all know and love had the longest journey before debuting. When she was in third grade, she was scouted by JYP Entertainment (JYPE). During her stint as a JYP trainee, she has seen many groups debut before her like Wonder Girls and Miss A. Her seniority among trainees and dedication are what made her fellow TWICE members eventually vote her to be their leader.

Momo being announced the last member of TWICE was the plot twist of the century

In the sixth episode of “Sixteen,” Momo was eliminated from the selection. Many fans of the (then) trainee were absolutely heartbroken by the news, including her fellow candidates. Sana was the most emotional in this episode since she they planned on debuting together. You can imagine how shocked everyone was when Park Jin-young (CEO of JYPE) announced her as the last member of TWICE. Park shared that he was really impressed with the Japanese trainee and he believed that her dancing prowess is going to bring a lot to the group.
