Who run the bar? GIRLS!

After months of waiting, bar exam takers can finally breathe. The 2019 bar examination results were released earlier today. Even better news: looking at this list, it looks like the majority of the top-notchers are women.

The new year’s bar top-notcher is Mae Diane M. Adorez from the University of Sto. Tomas – Legazpi, registering a passing rate of 91.0490 percent. The rest of the top five passers are also women, namely Princess Fatima T. Parahiman, Myra M. Baranda, Dawna Fya O. Bandiola and Jocelyn B. Fabello. In the top ten, only three places were occupied by men.

Apart from being the bar top-notcher, Adorez is currently a state auditor of the Commission on Audit Bicol region. While performing her duties, the licensed CPA tells DZMM that she prepared for the four-day examinations by studying for at least 10-12 hours straight.

“Nung bago pa lang po magstart yung review, may mga tao na nagsasabi na kaya mo yan magiging topnotcher ka, ayusin mo ha. Yung pressure po na ‘yun ginamit ko as motivation and thinking ko na rin po na sige baka kaya naman (Before I started reviewing, there were some people who told me that I could become a top-notcher. I used that as my motivation, thinking that maybe I can achieve it),” she shared further.

Seeing women taking the spotlight in the 2019 bar exams, we’re hoping a lot more aspiring lawyers will follow suit. We need more Elle Woods in the country.
