5 Instagram shops offering crochet goodies that are sew, sew good

A lot of folks are getting into arts and crafts these days—to pass the time and to have an additional source of income during the quarantine. A couple of my friends have started learning how to crochet. Me and a buddy of mine were talking about investing in a sewing machine. While this renewed interest in dealing with literal threads isn’t exactly new, it seems that people are approaching it with more vigor. And why not? It’s a smart and enduring skill.

Like any other skill, there’s a bit of a learning curve. For rookies, it might be best to start with crochet then leveling up to knitting and sewing once you get the hang of it. However, you can also be the type to love crochet products but prefer to get yours by supporting others. If that’s the case, check out these cool crochet shops on Instagram for your next purchase.

Water and the Moon

Stitch witch Mimi of Water and the Moon is a pro when it comes to making crocheted bikinis, tops and bottoms that are perfect for the beach. (Or the summer in general since we still have to wait a couple more months before we can take a seaside trip.) Offering a wide variety of patterns, you choose just how much skin you want to show off in your peek-a-boo piece. Suit or crop top, these go great with long patterned skirts or denim shorts.

This La Union-based shop also sells handmade earrings, bags and keychains. Complete the set to get that island girl vibe.

Hooked on Yarns

Something tells us that January loves anything cozy and cute. Her crocheted sweaters, ponchos, scarves and dresses all scream comfort. Hooked on Yarns is the shop for you if you’re looking for an eye-catching piece that you can wear without any hassle. The delightful use of the ombre effect in some of her goods adds that dreamy effect.

If you’re looking to have more whimsy in your life, their crochet mermaid’s tail could be the answer. They also craft amigurumi, the Japanese term for small yarn dolls and the act of making them. My favorite yarn creature on their catalogue is the french bulldog.

Ginansilyo ni Marya

Mary Ramos Pile refers to herself as a certified amigurumi hooker. At her shop, Ginansilyo ni Marya, you can request for a little yarn version of your favorite fictional character or animal from. Depending on your budget, you can also have your yarn buddy sporting multiple accessories. The shop’s amigurumis range from ones that you can hold in a closed fist or hug.

Some of the dolls that caught my attention were the Little Prince and the Fox and the Baby Metal ones. If you’re more interested in street style than fandoms, they also have Kaws inspired amigurumis.

Handmade by Sabelle

Sabelle is a proud mom and her shop reflects this. She specializes in crochet kid costumes. Tired of getting your kids the store-bought kind? Handmade by Sabelle can sure turn your kid’s dream into reality with their sets.

Worried that you’ll need to splurge to get a good costume set? Sabelle’s covering all the bases. Take her Darna set for example. She includes a headdress with wig, bra, bikini, boots and arm bracelets. Whether your little one prefers to be a superhero or a fast-food icon like Jollibee, the shop has something for everyone.

Loco for Loops

Loco for Loops is all about dainty decor and sweet dolls. If you’re crazy about shades of pink (or looking for housewarming gifts or presents for young moms), you’ll find something that’s to your taste here. Their ROSÉ Collection is made up of crochet organizers to store your knick knacks in. They have a Mayo the Bunny pair that includes a doll and a rattle. Their tissue holder box might also be something that will interest you right now.
