In Hawaii-based journalist Annalisa Burgos’ Twitter thread about the issue, Salamanca’s attorney shared that the “public service announcement ” was a condition given by the Hawaii court as part of the Filipino YouTuber’s deferred guilty plea. The apology was mandated to be said in Filipino so that Salamanca’s followers in the Philippines will not follow what she did.
According to Salamanca’s video, she’s remorseful about the whole issue and hopes that her case will be as a lesson for everyone to take the pandemic seriously. Salamanca informs her viewers that she was silent ever since the arrest because she was fixing things with the Hawaii court. After the case was closed, Salamanca is reported to have left Hawaii and returned to her home in Alabama.
The pandemic at hand is obviously no joking matter, especially when it’s claimed so many lives. Let’s see Salamanca’s case as a wake up call that we can’t give in to caution fatigue because it might endanger other people’s health.
