Move over, “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” a new bayani film is coming to town and it’s about the Filipina freedom fighter Salud Algabre.
According to a report by INQUIRER.net, Filipino screen legend Nora Aunor confirmed that she will be starring in an upcoming historical film, taking on the role of Salud Algabre or Henerala Salud, a beauty queen from Cabuyao, Laguna turned revolutionary who led the Sakdalista uprising against the Americans on May 2, 1935.
The cinema superstar always wanted to play a character like this and expressed that she’s both excited and nervous about the project.
According to the Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) artistic director Nanding Josef, TP is planning to release a short film on the 67-year-old heroine in celebration of National Women’s Month on March 2021.
“Tanghalang Pilipino will produce, initially, a short film on the 67-year-old Salud Algabre, in time for the March 2021 celebration of National Women’s Month. Hopefully, TP, with a partner producer, will eventually produce the full-length film on this hardly known, fearless Filipina freedom fighter,” he wrote on Facebook.
