Twitter users react to Pinoys joining the Pro-Trump protesters who breached the Capitol building

As you may already know, hundreds of Trump supporters seized the US Capitol building in Washington, DC Wednesday afternoon (early Thursday, Manila time), while their representatives were in the midst of certifying electoral college votes from the November elections. With lawmakers herded to safety, the largely ceremonial task of officially declaring Joe Biden as the next US President was disrupted and had to be postponed for several hours. Videos of the pro-Trump mob breaking windows of the Capitol building and law enforcers using teargas to push them back have been making the rounds on social media.

What wasn’t immediately apparent was that there were Filipinos who joined the mob. According to Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez, many Filipinos from different parts of America took part in the protest in support of President Trump.

“Ang balita namin merong mga iba na Trump supporters and nakita namin galing din sa ibang states dito sa Amerika, pero hindi namin sigurado kung ilan sila,” the ambassador told “Unang Balita”.
