It’s no secret that climate activist Greta Thunberg and former U.S. President (feels so good to write that) and climate change denier Donald Trump have been beefing on and off social media.
On Jan. 20, a few hours before the inauguration of now U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Thunberg trolled Trump one last time with a hilarious farewell that was years in the making. She posted a photo of the disgraced ex-president leaving the White House and boarding Marine One with the caption, “He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”
It’s a recast of a September 2019 tweet by Trump on Wired’s post containing a clip from Thunberg’s speech at the United Nations summit on climate. “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!” he wrote.
Trump has since been banned from multiple social media and business platforms for inciting violence on numerous occasions, the most serious being the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Thunberg has been candidly speaking out on repercussions if collective climate action isn’t done pronto. She said in her U.N. speech, ”People are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.”
Trump’s response through that infamous tweet came off as condescending, especially considering how his administration promoted climate denial and climate policy deregulation.
Thunberg’s clapback is on our list of favorite tweets from her. Genuinely funny. (It’s too bad Trump won’t be able to see it. LOL) We can’t wait to witness more of the 18-year-old’s takedowns and watch her expose “all the dark secrets behind the climate- and school strike conspiracy.”
