We want these ’80s and ’90s makeup trends to make a comeback

It might just be the confirmation bias talking, but I think zoomers and younger millennials tend to go through nostalgic trends a lot—dark brown matte lips came back in a big way a few years ago, but they’ve since been overtaken by soft nudes and glossy lips—so it’s hard to say what past makeup trend is going to come back or stay within the annals of time.

In honor of Ever Bilena rocking its 38th year in the industry, we’d like to look into some of the deep cuts of the makeup looks that the ’80s and ’90s girls rocked and how we might wear them now.

Neon shadows and deep, sculpted blushes

Bright neon blue, pink, and purple eye shadows framed by a hot pink blush (in the proto-Kardashian age, blush was your contour) is the most ’80s makeup look out there. It’s not an everyday wearable look now; it screams “I’m going to the club” more than “I’m going to the office.” It’s also kinda gay?

Look, I don’t think I’m the only one who’s noticed that ’80s penchant for bright colors slides right into current queer aesthetics. Bright blue, pink, and purple is quite literally the color of the bi flag! As a bi enby, I take it as my duty to advocate for more ’80s style looks at the next Pride Parade, whenever that might be. Imagine: Bi flag shadows on your eyes and rainbow blush as your contour (you can use a pink blush as your guide). Work! You can use Ever Bilena Advance’s Shadow Sticks and the Ever Bilena ultimate eyeshadow palette on the eyes and the Ever Bilena Power Paint as the blush-contour.

Brow skimming aqua shadows and darker than thou lip liners

Another hot trend was aquamarine blue eyeshadows applied way past your eyelids until they reached your brows. Couple this with a lip liner a million shades darker than your lips and you have another quintessential, music video-friendly ’80s ethereal girl look.

I say embrace the fantasy and don this look for a sexy sea witch vibe. With seashantycore and dark royalty populating TikTok’s for you pages, it’s only a matter of time before dark mermaidcore becomes a thing. For this look, you can apply Ever Bilena Advance’s Shadow Stick cream eyeshadow in sapphire on your eyes and line your lips with a dark Ever Bilena matte lip liner.

Spider lashes and frosted lips

Now I normally wouldn’t recommend bringing back ’90s spider lashes again (and for the integrity of your eyelashes, please don’t do it everyday), but how cute would a dark e-girl spider look be? Pair it with cool, frosted lips for a one part “Corpse Bride,” one part Spider Queen look. Clump on Ever Bilena’s Pro Lash Define Mascara on your lashes for the spider eyes. To get the frosted lips, apply an Ever Bilena matte lippie and lightly sprinkle on EB Advance’s glow out highlighter

Racoon eyes

Hey, if the more than a li’l bit racially insensitive fox eye look is a thing, then why not bring back racoon eyes instead? Lay on some thick black shadows on your eyes and do a look that’s out there while not offending anyone except for a certain bushy mammal. For this look, you can apply Ever Bilena Advance’s black Shadow Stick cream eyeshadow.

Glitter shadows and glossy lips

I am a glitter apologist. I love putting on glitter on my lips, my cheeks, basically anywhere on my face that can handle glitter. (I’ve been known to pack some on my eyebags.) I don’t care if it looks less sparkle queen and more disco ball, it’s such a fun look. And makeup should be fun and an avenue for creativity and experimentation, even if it means doing it too much. It’s the post-minimalist, maximalist-centric era, after all.

For this look, you can top your eyeshadow with EB Advance’s glow out highlighter and swipe on their vinyl lipgloss on your lips.

BTW, to celebrate its 38th anniversary, Ever Bilena is holding a sale from March 1 to 31. Some items will be on sale for P38, while others will be 38% off. The sale will be both online (Shopee and Lazada) and in physical stores.
