Cara Delevingne Opens Up About Her Body Issues and Sexual Harassment

Remember that time Cara Delevingne dropped being a model from her resumé? In a recent interview with The Times, she finally opens up about her reasons. The fashion industry made her “feel a bit hollow” on the inside and the sexual harassment circling around its glamour “makes [her] feel sick.”

Just when we thought she solely traded in being a model for a shot at being an actress (let’s face it, her recent movie Paper Towns did great), she just simply couldn’t wait to get out of the fashion industry. The 23-year-old former model won’t even be doing Fashion Week anymore as modeling gave her serious body issues. “I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on [the] edge,” she said. “It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse.”

Due to the demands of being a model, she developed a stress-related skin disorder called psoriasis, which Kim Kardashian also developed, “People would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought it was, like, leprosy or something.”

These things aren’t new. Even before this, at the height of her modeling career, she had been receiving pressuring her to lose weight. This just made her “angry.”

But the worst is yet to come. She opened up about the “horrible” and “disgusting” cases of sexual harassment in modeling by photographers. “I am a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick.” She adds that “You start when you are really young and you do, you get subjected to…not great stuff.”

Even in her transition to being an actress, the movie industry proved to be no sweet escape as she had similar experiences, although it’s “worse in modeling.”

What she promises though is that issues like these won’t just be brushed off. “If there is injustice I will flip out. If someone is crossing a line, they will know about it and so will everyone else. I’m not about brushing things under the carpet,” the newly minted actress says.
