Nadine Lustre’s ‘Wait For Me’ is a masterclass in the art of letting go

Breakups are often difficult, even if it’s a mutual decision made on good terms. Sometimes, you can’t help but want to still be there for each other— and that can be super confusing. As Nadine Lustre says in her latest single “Wait For Me,” a clean break and a lot of space are musts for a healthy breakup.

On Oct. 29, Careless Music dropped the lyric video for Lustre’s heartfelt ballad. “Wait For Me” feels simultaneously like a meditation and the moment you open your eyes to get back to the real word. It’s about settling into the feeling of acceptance while you’re in the process of fully letting go. “Need a little time to think / You don’t gotta wait for me / You can do your own thing / While I do some work on me,” Lustre sings. “I don’t wanna make a mess of your love / And I can’t be the one that’s holding you up.”

Fans finding meaning behind the lyrics left comments on the video about how it’s bringing them closure on the end of the JaDine reel-to-real love team. Photos of Lustre in Siargao, where she was spotted with a rumored boyfriend, have been going viral since August. On Oct. 24, James Reid announced that his house in Katipunan, Quezon City is for sale again. It is believed to be the former couple’s previously shared home.

The lyric video was released ahead of the official music video which will debut tomorrow, Oct. 30. Careless Music shared a moody black and white teaser video where Lustre is sporting bangs and looking up at a full moon. Will it end up as dreamy as Lustre’s “Wildest Dreams” era music videos? We’re ready to find out, with a glass of wine in hand, on Halloween/her birthday weekend.

The singer-actress also has a potential upcoming project under Viva Films which director Yam Laranas teased with photos from a virtual table read. Lustre had been in a legal battle with talent management firm Viva Artists Agency prior to the post.
