It’s “Lunod” day!
Ben&Ben, Zild, and Juan Karlos just released the music video of their collab single “Lunod” today. ICYDK, the song discusses their struggles with mental health.
It also goes harder than their usual sound—“’Yung rock sound ng ‘Lunod’ represents the aggressive, overwhelming feeling ng nalulunod ka sa pangangamba,” Ben&Ben lead guitarist Poch Barretto explained at the press event for the music video.
The “Lunod” video, their second MV by Jerrold Tarog, feels like a classic rock video, complete with the singers wildly gesticulating their feelings over a somber dark background. (NGL, that plus the long hair reminded me of those campy hair metal music videos, and not in a bad way!)
True to its name, the music video contains many shots of the members being doused in water. “Para siyang liquid swab test,” lead singer Paolo Benjamin joked about filming it. “Nalunok ko nga ’yung tubig, kinabahan ako pag-uwi. Sabi ko, ‘Kailangan ko yata ng antigen test,’” Zild also quipped.
Speaking of the filming, the music video was shot in the El Deposito reservoir, a historic site built in 1882. The band shared that they were a bit creeped out by the location, and noted what they felt when they tried to explore deeper into the tunnel. “Medyo mabigat ang feeling. Siguro dahil walang masyado oxygen doon pero iba ’yung feeling.” Listen, the lengths this band will take to provide good content, I don’t know if you appreciate it enough.
Aside from the music video, the band still has other “Lunod”-related stuff for y’all. They have their “Lunod”-themed pop-up cafe at Latitude Bean+Bar in Malate, Manila. It’s part of their Kuwaderno Pop-Up Cafe activities, running from Nov. 25 to 27, with the other pop-ups at Jess & Pat’s in Maginhawa, QC, and Kale Cafe + Restaurant in Fairview, QC.
The Lunod cafe specifically features a Lunod art installation inspired by Zelijah’s Bipolar Remix of the song, as well as other art activities related to mental health. Of course, there’s also the upcoming live concert “Kuwaderno” on Dec. 5, which you can buy tickets for either here or at the Kuwaderno cafes.
