Who hasn’t fantasized about leaving it all behind, even just for a few years, and traveling abroad and living your “Emily In Paris” dreams? Don’t lie to me—I know you bookmarked that one TikTok about getting a scholarship for Germany too. In fact, I just applied to IDP Education in a fit of self-pity a few weeks ago, and I have many friends who have admitted looking into the Japanese government MEXT scholarship program. Let’s face it, life is hell and we’re all itching to live out our second acts.
For those of K-drama and K-pop persuasion, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is calling for applicants for its 2022 scholarship program. The deadline for it is Mar. 18.
The scholarship covers “tuition, monthly allowance, air fare, accommodation, settlement allowance, scholarship completion grants, insurance, and extracurricular activities.” It’s offering post-graduate programs in a number of universities (including the University of Seoul) for countries under the Development Assistance Committee (DAC)’s list for official development assistance (ODA). The Philippines is under that, and for the moment I’m choosing to accept that as a boon for us and not a deeply sad fact.
The catch is that you need to either be a “public official or publicly-affiliated worker” meaning you have to at least be a government employee. The scholarship program is intended to “nurture key leaders in developing countries who can contribute to the socio-economic development of their home countries.”
