Women’s Month is about to end and we’re making the most out of its final week by supporting women artists who aim to empower others.

“Babae, Babawi”
“Babae, Babawi” is a solidarity gig for working and peasant women. Part of the Working and Peasant Women’s Fair, it’s organized by SAKA (Sama-samang Artista para sa Kilusang Agraryo), Rural Women Advocates, and the Farmers Center for Agroecology Services. You can catch the show from 4 to 9 p.m. on March 26 at the Village B Basketball Court, Brgy. UP Campus, Quezon City.
Joining its roster of musicians are BP Combo, Catpuke, Faith Corvatch, Lolit Solid, Mao, Project Yazz, Shanti, Tao, and The Bleaching Hour. You can also purchase stickers, prints, and handmade earrings from artist Marianie.
The event doubles as the launch for “Gabay sa Agroecology,” a book series by the Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura. Guest speakers will be talking about the struggles of women agricultural workers and how today’s minimum wage fails to meet the family living wage.
“Yassi on Air”
Yassi Pressman is back with another dance film, which you can watch on her YouTube channel after its March 26 drop. She’s been using the hashtag #YassiOnAir in gorgeous teasers of her suspended on aerial silks while sporting a long robe with the words “women empower women” written on the train.
“Beaten up and bruised but I pulled through. I chose to challenge myself to do something I’ve never done before to prove that we, as women, can achieve anything we put our minds to,” Pressman wrote about her two-day training with the women of Airdance. We can’t wait to see her reach literal new heights with this new performance.
“Usapang Puki”
Everyone’s favorite vagina-centric play is back. The UP Repertory Company and the UP Diliman Gender Office will be streaming a new production of “Usapang Puki” on March 30 at 7 p.m. via Facebook Live.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, the play is a Filipino version of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” which features monologues about self-discovery, sexual fantasies, and abuse. The new production is directed by Jasper Villasis and includes additional material from Gio Potes. It stars Jaime Monserrat, Ligaya Marquez, Sarina Sasaki, Serena Magiliw, and Opaline Santos.
This marks a full decade of “Usapang Puki” productions. What’s a better way to cap off the month than asserting women’s rights and bodily autonomy?
