It’s finally happening. Filipino fans are about to get love drunk and enjoy a great escape with Boston pop rock band Boys Like Girls as they return to Manila for their much-awaited concert. Feeling nostalgic for the 2000s scene? Us, too. Okay, maybe except for the scene bangs.
After two years of failed attempts to schedule a live performance in the country, Boys Like Girls are returning to Manila to commemorate the 15th anniversary of their self-titled debut album released in 2006. Presented by Play Back Music Festival and Super Awesome Productions, the band’s concerts at the New Frontier Theatre on October 10 and 11 are part of the Southeast Asia leg of the anniversary tour.
Lead vocalist Martin Johnson, lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni, bassist Gregory James, and drummer John Keefe will play hits from their debut album such as “The Great Escape,” “Hero/Heroine,” and “Thunder.” Selling over 700,000 copies, the album was gold certified in the United States and, perhaps more importantly, contributed to many of our old mixed CDs.
The tour schedule has been through a lot of changes. Initially scheduled for April 2020, it was pushed to September 2020 due to COVID-19. Persistent global health concerns then forced the band to postpone the tour until September 2021, and again until October 2022. It’s giving brunch-with-friends-that-keeps-getting-cancelled vibes, NGL. Apart from Manila, the tour currently has stops in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok. Southeast Asia, let’s give them some love.
But let’s forget yesterday (or dive right into old memories, contrary to the lyrics) and make the great escape with the band. Tickets are available at all TicketNet outlets and on their website.
