Guessing the sound of Jisoo’s upcoming solo album

Finally, it’s Jisoo’s turn to go solo.

YG Entertainment announced through a statement released on Jan. 2 that the Blackpink vocalist, who turns 28 today, is set to make her solo debut this year. This will complete Blackpink’s first quartet of solo projects and we couldn’t help but wonder how Jisoo’s will differ from her bandmates’ releases.

“Blackpink’s Jisoo is currently working hard on recording her solo album. While carrying out a busy world tour schedule since last year, she finished the album jacket photo shoot and worked on music production whenever she got the time in order to keep the promise with fans,” YG Entertainment said, according to a translation from Soompi.

Album details, including its release date, have yet to be revealed but that won’t stop us from speculating on what Jisoo’s first album will sound like. If we take each member’s stylistic choices into consideration, it isn’t surprising that Jennie’s “Solo” was a mix of pop and hip-hop, that Rosé’s “R” had some indie rock elements, and that Lisa’s “Lalisa” had dance-ready hip-hop bangers.

As Blackpink’s modern-day Dior princess, we can already envision Jisoo’s album and concept to be a bit more subdued, favoring elegant grooves over loud elements. We’re betting on a Korean ballad that showcases her vocal range while she’s in a gorgeous dress, which we already got a taste of in her live covers of Zedd’s “Clarity” and AKMU’s “How Can I Love The Heartbreak, You’re The One I Love.”

But we can also count on Jisoo to have a danceable pop title track in a similar vein as Camilla Cabello’s “Liar,” which she performed live with the Cuban-born singer during the Los Angeles stop of “Born Pink.”

Sure, this album news came out around the same time YG Entertainment dispeled industry rumors about Blackpink moving to associate company The Black Label and teased the upcoming debut of its newest girl group called Baby Monster this year.

But clearly, Blackpink’s members aren’t going anywhere.
