The 26-year-old got the three judges—Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, and Blake Shelton—turning their chairs for her and fighting for Amy to choose a spot in any of the judges’ teams. While Adam, expressed his appreciation of the singer, his team was already full and he couldn’t accommodate anyone else as result.
“You are on a different path than anybody else (in this show),” says Blake thoroughly blown away by her guitar skills. But despite his attempt to sway the singer to join his team, in the end, Amy chose Pharell Williams as her coach for the ninth season of the American singing competition.
The now-Brooklyn-based singer is the niece of Cebu Representative Gwendolyn Garcia. Cebu Daily News editor in chief Eileen Mangubat confirms with Preen, “Amy is the daughter of Gwendolyn Garcia’s younger sister.”
Amy’s cool and soothing voice led Blake to compare her to artists like Norah Jones and Colbie Caillat. And as if still in disbelief from the compliments she received and the experience as a whole, she posted on her Instagram account a photo of herself with a caption saying, “What in the world? Am I dreaming?”
