The Votes Are In: Leni Robredo Named Vice-President on Late Husband’s Birthday

After weeks of trending hashtags and continuous vote count controversies, Leni Robredo is finally named as our country’s vice-president and right hand to incoming president Rodrigo Duterte.

In an interview, Leni says she didn’t expect the official results to come in tonight. “Masayang-masaya po tayo kasi hindi natin inaasahan matatapos ang canvassing ngayong araw (We are very happy because we didn’t expect the canvassing today),” she says.

She adds, “Ano ba naman ang chances na sa birthday ng asawa ko matatapos ang canvassing? (What are the chances that the canvassing ended on my husband’s (the late Jesse Robredo) birthday?)”

When asked when she will talk to Duterte, she says that she will wait for the official proclamation first.

So, now that she’s been named as our VP, maybe we can put all the hate and arguments at rest. Now, we shall wait and see what the tandem of Duterte and Robredo will bring once the new administration starts this June. Change is coming, indeed.
