Fresh out of her win as our new vice-president, Leni Robredo is already at risk of not taking the position, along with other Liberal Party (LP) members who won this year’s elections.
Apparently, the defeated presidential candidate Mar Roxas failed to file their statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) yesterday. LP campaign spokesperson Barry Gutierrez explains that they’re still preparing all the documents for Mar.
Meanwhile, Leni was able to submit hers on time.
However, aside from the imposed P10,000 to P30,000 fine under COMELEC Resolution No. 9991, it seems that all their winning candidates might not assume their posts because of the party’s late submission.
And yes, that includes Leni since she’s a member of the LP.
“It is in the law that if the political party was not able to file the SOCE, [its] candidates who won cannot assume their posts. That is what the law says. As you can imagine, that might have far-reaching consequences,” COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez says.
James adds that the COMELEC will still discuss their decision on whether they’ll let Leni and the other party members to assume their posts.
