Here’s What You Need To Know About the Philippines Hosting Miss Universe 2017

Today, Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo announced that the Philippines will host the 2017. This will be the first time our country has done so in 22 years. DOT Undersecretary spread the news via her Facebook account.

The pageant will be held on Jan. 17, 2017 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The news is also why reigning Ms. Universe Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach visited President Rodrigo Duterte a week ago. According to Inquirer Lifestyle, Pia discussed the possible government sponsorship of the pageant. The President remained firm on his decision not to spend any government funds on the endeavor, which has now turned to the private sector for funding.

Nevertheless, it promises to be an exciting event that will draw tourists around the globe and give us a spotlight in the international stage. The last Miss Universe pageant got a viewing audience of 6.6 million.

Preen will keep you posted on the other details such as who shall be hosting the event. We also hope the local scene of the pageant will boost the chances of our current Binibining Pilipinas Maxine Medina.
