Just how effective is the new 911 emergency hotline? According to one citizen, it’s very effective as the authorities responded to her call at 1 a.m. on Aug. 1—just a few hours after they launched.
Rosario Juan shared on her social media accounts how she alerted the guard of her residential building when she saw a man knocking outside her window, several feet up. The guard said that it was the boyfriend of a cheating wife one floor up who got caught mid-action.
Not contented with how the building guards dealt with the matter, she called up 911. Soon enough, the police showed up to further investigate, involving two foreigners and a Chinese housewife.
Hours after the 911 hotline debuted on Monday, the line received 2,475 calls. 1,119 of which were dropped calls and 304 were prank calls.
Opposite the 911 hotline is the 8888 line of the Civil Service Commission which is open to complaints about abusive public servants and government employees. President Rodrigo Duterte has swiftly implemented these services a month after his formal term in office.
