Sen. Leila De Lima has been under a lot of scrutiny lately—from being called “immoral” for being allegedly linked to her former driver to getting booted as justice committee chair. However, no one was prepared for this broadsheet’s headline.
The broadsheet’s front page story relates to witnesses testifying against Leila’s alleged links to drugs. We agree that it attracted attention―sadly, in the wrong way. But, the headline is pretty damning considering that Leila’s already under a lot of criticism and stress as it is.
Meanwhile, netizens also caught on to this. Some thought the headline was funny while others found it offensive.
It’s true that political figures are always being criticized, even making jokes about them just to lighten the mood. But blatant statements like this is just too much, especially when it’s coming from the media who are supposed to be objective of her. No one knows for certain whether Leila is guilty of these accusations, and even if she is, she, or any person, doesn’t deserve to be humiliated in any way.
Also, there’s got to be a better term to use than “finger,” right?
