Transgender Cong. Geraldine Roman Named Inspiring Woman of 2016 by ‘Time’

Time listed Bataan First District Rep. Geraldine Roman as one of the most inspiring women of 2016.

Geraldine was included for being the first transgender congresswoman to be elected in the country. Not only that, Time also recognized her efforts to push for civil unions and an anti-discrimination bill on behalf of the LGBT community. “I want to fight for human rights, and that includes LGBT rights. Especially civil unions because we often say here in the Philippines, members of the LGBT community are accepted and tolerated. But when push comes to shove, they have no legal protection,” she said last July.

Also in the list are Beyoncé and Solange Knowles,  Hillary Clinton, Simone Biles, Fu Yuanhui, Amber Heard, and more. These women were chosen for “celebrating the power of girls and campaigning for gender equality worldwide.”

Good job, Geraldine!
