‘No Window Policy’ Deemed Successful in Lessening Traffic

The “no window hours” policy, banning vehicles from the road based on the last digit of their plate number has been observed to reduce traffic in its trial period. And that 18 more roads will be met with the same policy on Nov. 1.

Inquirer.net reports that the policy shall soon apply to the following roads Recto Avenue, President Quirino Avenue, Araneta Avenue, C.P. Garcia Avenue, Taft Avenue, South Luzon Expressway, Shaw Boulevard, Ortigas Avenue, Magsaysay Boulevard, Aurora Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, A. Bonifacio Avenue, Rizal Avenue, Del Pan, Marcos Highway, MacArthur Highway, and the Bulacan-Rizal-Manila-Cavite Regional Expressway.

Currently, the new traffic measure is bring followed strictly on EDSA, C5, Alabang-Zapote Road, Roxas Boulevard, and in Mandaluyong, Makati, and Las Piñas. It had been reported that traffic along EDSA has been reduced by 21 minutes last week.

The number coding scheme shall also be extended by one more hour, making it from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

More roads would have been added but given the incoming holiday season, the MMDA sought to stick to the 18 roads listed as it might affect sales and commerce.
