Filipino-Dutch artist Martha Atienza joins the shortlist for the 11th Benesse Prize in the Singapore Biennale 2017.
It is the first time the award will be presented in Asia. Originating from Vienna, the Benesse Prize aims to recognize an “artist whose art practice embodies an experimental and critical spirit, and for his/her potential to develop a reflection around the theme of ‘Benesse’ (Well-Being).”
If chosen to be the winner, Martha will be commissioned for a piece to be displayed at the Benesse Art Site in Naoshima, Japan and will receive a cash prize of JPY 3,000,000. The winner is set to be announced on Jan. 2017.
The Singapore Art Biennale will start tomorrow, Oct. 27 and will run till Feb. 26, 2017 across key art locations in Singapore. (Take note if you’re booking a trip soon.)
Martha belongs to the latest recipients of the CCP 13 Artists Awards which allowed her to display her light and sound creation, Endless Hours At Sea at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Congratulations, Martha!
