Stop what you’re doing right now. The Devil Wears Prada is officially going to be a Broadway musical and Elton John will compose the music.
The movie which starred Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway became a favorite during the early 2000s. But most people fell in love with Meryl’s portrayal of Runway editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Seriously, she’s just #girlboss goals.
Props to whoever will get Miranda’s role in the play because Meryl might be a tough act to follow.
“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting,” Elton says in a press release. “I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”
Elton will also work with Paul Rudnick, who will write the song lyrics. The play will also be produced by Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen.
As of now, the production timeline and other details are still under wraps. But if we were to channel Miranda in this situation, the waiting will just make us impatient. (Still stoked, though!)
