Should You Cop this Contour and Highlight Duo from Your Favorite Local Brand?

Contouring and highlighting have gone from makeup artists’ secret to  a commonplace vanity practice. We have so many variations from powders to creams along with brushes to get that chisled and highligted look. Happy Skin is joining the game this 2017 with their new launch the Glisten Up! Cheek Stick Set (P1,199) under their first collection for the year, Festival of Colors.

We got first dibs on these two products and we must commend the easy-to-use design. Since they are tapered like pens, it’s not hard to get the product just where you need them. As you use them, however, it may be a little tricky to keep the tapering. Just think of how each lipstick tends to be indented uniquely to every user.

The formula is easy to blend with fingers—an important  feature to most Happy Skin products—so they won’t be such a pain to use. Lasting power is decent especially when you set it correctly or spritz some setting spray.

My main contention is the color. The contour stick’s shade might be a little muddy for morena skin tones. It can also run a little orange for fairer skin. The trick is to adjust and blend to your color type. Perhaps learn how to balance it out with your foundation or powder.

On the other hand, the highlighting stick is beautiful. It is a champagne shade that’s just that bright without being glittery. It’s also not too white for darker skin with some pink pigments but is defintely not too yellow-toned if you’re not a fan of gold highlighters.  What it makes for is a wearable shade for both day and night.

For a newbie in this area of makeup, the set would make a good first kit. Just make sure to swatch it on your own skin before buying it to see if it matches your taste and your skintone. We’re crossing our fingers that Happy Skin comes up with more variations to the set in the near future as they are blended with grapefruit extract, an ingredient that helps elimate blemishes.

The Festival of Colors Collection also features other products such as the Bye Bye, Blues Brightening Concealer Wand and Festival of Colors Lip Kit in Honeymoon Glow, The Morning After, and Dance All Day.

Happy Skin. Available at Glorietta 4 and online. The Festival of Colors collection is now up for pre-selling online and will be available in store on Feb. 9.
