The Songs that Remind Us of Awkward First Dates and Kisses

This going to sound cheesy, but music really has the ability to transport you back in time. Hear me out! When you hear a song—whether in a public place or it plays on shuffle, you’ll sometimes find yourself saying, “This was playing when something memorable happened.”

This is the case when a ’90s or ’00s song suddenly plays. Certain memories from your youth come rushing back—many are worth reminiscing fondly on, some are just cringe-worthy. So we decided to bring some nostalgia today with the help of Playback Music Festival’s official Spotify playlist.

The first time you had a crush on someone

Remember that cute boy or girl you went to school with and how you couldn’t approach them? It’s funny to think about it now, but if you want to relive that moment, listen to “Torete” by Moonstar88. (For extra feels, listen to Moira Dela Torre‘s version too.)

The awkward first date

Whenever I hear “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer, it reminds me of those cliché romance movies. For other people, it may be the song playing during their first date with someone. I’m also guessing that this played during that awkward “should I kiss this person” moment.

Meeting your possible future SO

“Passenger Seat” by Stephen Speaks is such a lovestruck song that you can’t help but think about the person you had feelings back then. Good times. (Or not. Depends on you.)

Your boy group stan

If you listened to a lot of music in the ’90s and early ’00, you’ll know how many boy groups became popular during that era. You were probably obsessed with some of the members and knew all the words to their hit songs. One of them was Blue and their song “One Love” is an iconic one you can go back to anytime.

Rocking out in your room

Do you miss your old room and the CDs you used to play out loud while hanging out? We’re sure you probably played Vertical Horizon’s “You’re a God” multiple times, or at least saw its music video on MTV. Wasn’t it fun to sing along and jump around to this song?

Starting to miss “the good ‘ol days”? Playback Music Festival will take you back in a snap. It’s happening on Feb. 10 at the Circuit Makati Events Grounds. Go buy your tickets at SM Ticket outlets and online, stat!
