Today in New York Fashion Week news, a Filipina singer-slash-rapper performed at the Chromat show. K Rizz closed the show singing and dancing while the models had their final walk.
She showed her appreciation in an Instagram post saying, “Got the models strutting to words like ‘walang hiya’ and ‘mabuhay.’ Only at the Chromat fashion show! Will they give you this type of diversity, empowerment, and fun?” Unlike other shows you might have seen, the models for Chromat were of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with K Rizz, she is based in New York and grew up in Queens. According to Thump, she went to a predominantly white Catholic school. While studying there she was bullied, “People didn’t know what a Filipina was and would say, ‘You’re a chink, stay over there.’”
Look at her now, though! She’s able to share her music with the world and she looks good doing it too.
