Haley Dasovich Vlogs Her Encounter With a Taxi Scam

Last year, during the Uber and Grab drama, netizens shared their horror stories using public transportation like taxis. Well, it seems nothing has changed as vlogger Haley Dasovich documents a recent taxi scam.

In her latest vlog, she recorded her encounter with a driver at the airport. After a long flight she gets into a white taxi. At first the driver seems friendly asking if she wants to learn some Tagalog words, when she agrees he says he will charge her one dollar per word.

After the ride started, Haley noticed that the taxi meter was off and asked the driver to start it. He then offers her a fixed rate of P500 to which she replies, “No, I’m not gonna do this with you.” The driver then complains that he has been there for two hours waiting for a passenger. Haley offers to give him a tip, which he agrees to and switches on the meter.

What followed was a lecture from the driver about how metered taxis are losing money, “Para namang metrohan kami, ‘di ba, hilingan mo kami ng metro, pwede naman nga kaso nalugi na kami (You can ask us to use the meter but we lose money).”

Yes, we understand that’s difficult for them but not using the meter is another reason why people have stopped taking taxis completely!

Haley ended this part of the vlog with a message, “Tourists and out-of-towners, be wary of ‘broken meter’ and ‘fixed rates.’ I would recommend always and only ever use Uber or Grab Car. NEVER a taxi.”

Have you guys experienced the same situation lately? Feel free to share your stories in the comments section.
