After turning himself in to the New York Police Department, Harvey Weinstein was tried at the Manhattan Criminal Court and came out with a monitoring device. But that’s not the end just yet.
According to The New York Times, Weinstein has until Wednesday “to decide whether he plans to testify in front of the grand jury.” Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said his client intends to plea not guilty and insists that he didn’t do non-consensual sexual acts.
Weinstein was there because he was charged with criminal offense after Lucia Evans told The New Yorker he had forced her to perform oral sex on him. While an unnamed woman is suing for rape. Both happened in New York. (That’s just two of the many women he disrespected and violated in the past.)
That said, he was charged with first-degree rape and sexual abuse. He was released through a $1-million bail bond and is not allowed to flee the country until his hearing in July. It’s also possible that more charges will appear during the next hearing.
Meanwhile, many celebrities, including Weinstein’s victims, have expressed their happiness for his arrest.
We really do hope Weinstein stays behind bars for a long, long time.
