A victim of sexual violence herself, Lady Gaga is using her public clout to help out New York City Governor Andrew Cuomo to stop sexual assault in college campuses.

We have a responsibility to the young men and women of this country to stand up against sexual violence everywhere. Everyone—from lawmakers and educators to advocates like Born This Way Foundation and the students themselves—need to join forces on this issue. Together, we must create the scaffolding necessary to foster the mental, emotional, and physical health of all young people,” the op-ed piece states to address the issue as a whole, even though it’s been released in time to push New York lawmakers to pass the affirmative-consent law before the legislative session of this season ends on June 17.

The hitmaker is clearly not taking a poker face on the issue. Apart from this, she’s also written songs about her experiences and has spoken about the issue in previous interviews.

On the other hand, Governor Cuomo has been actively screening the documentary Hunting Ground, a film on campus sexual assault, to further the awareness and discussion of this issue in his jurisdiction.
