Jake Zyrus was handpicked to star in a Japanese action film

Singer Jake Zyrus will star as one of the leading roles in Yaru Onna (She’s a Killer), a Japanese action film about an assassin seeking vengeance for his father’s death. Director Keiji Miyanoreportedly handpicked Jake to play the best friend of contract killer Aiko, played by former KARA member Kang Ji-Young.

Even though the movie was shot last year, before Jake’s transition as a trans man, Jake gave props to the Japanese production team for respecting his identity enough to include his new name in the credits. In the theatrical trailer, he was regarded as Charice a.k.a. Jake Zyrus.

Yaru Onna had its world premiere last July 13 at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and is set to be released on Oct. 27 in Japan. We wonder if this film will be shown in the Philippines, too.
