When news broke that Asia Argento, one of the figureheads of the #MeToo movement, had a sexual harassment case of her own, we knew things would get complicated. While the actress denied taking advantage of her former co-star Jimmy Bennett as a minor, she did claim her late boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, orchestrated the deal to settle and pay him to assist him financially. Shortly after, her fellow MeToo activist Rose McGowan released a statement contradicting Asia’s claims of innocence. She said that text messages handed over to police by her partner, Rain Dove, showed proof of the contrary.
Asia finally responded to Rose with a threat to impose legal action. She tweeted that she is giving her 24 hours to “retract” her statement and apologize, or she would sue her for libel.
No further statement was released from both parties involved at this time.
