The story behind “Maybe The Night” will give you ‘Exes Baggage’ feels all over again

I’ve always found the process of writing music a curious one, especially the more personal ones that speak deeply to audiences—like “Maybe the Night,” the soundtrack for the movie Exes Baggage. Through social media, Miguel Guico of Ben&Ben gave us an insight to how the emotional song came to life. He revealed that the the words and melody to that song first came together in an empty condo which incidentally, resembles the one Pia bought in the film.

He also shared that one word ultimately shaped the song: “stillness.” He said it alludes to those special moments you want to capture or “pause” when you’re with a loved one. It doesn’t necessarily mean that person is someone you’re romantically involved with. It could be a friend, sibling, your mother, or even your pet. In that moment, sometimes you’re suddenly just hit with the overwhelming feeling that you’ll be with the person beside you for a really long time, though you’re not sure how, or how long. And the kind of relationship you have will only get deeper with every laughter, every fight, and everything in between; the kind of relationship where every meaningful look is worth more than a thousand experiences, and understanding each other comes even without uttering a word…And then you return to that moment and hit play and you realize that you don’t control the future, the only thing you’re sure of is the now—and that is everything that should matter you, and to the person beside you. In that moment, you’re sure of yourself, but more importantly, you’re sure of the person behind you.

Miguel said, “The band felt that stillness with each other when we were recording the song. Hopefully, this song will make you feel that same experience with your loved ones when you listen.”
