This Playlist Will Beat Your Blues

DJ Judd wants you to ditch those Lana del Rey hits with a rain-themed playlist that’s everything but somber.

Sure, the playlist starts with a chill song from James Blake, but minutes after, you’ll be dancing to Phoenix and Zhane. Full-time filmmaker and part-time DJ Judd Figuerres shares our sentiments about La Niña-appropriate tracks—why the heck does it always have to be bygone R&B hits that will unleash your #hugot?

And so we thank DJ Judd for compiling 13 songs that mount positive nostalgia and a hopeful mood instead. He explains the sonic transition in the same way he plays his beats: real smooth. “I personally think that rain is Mother Nature’s cue for isolation. [Tracks one to two are] slow and dark, almost creeping like gray clouds on [a] sunny sky.”

“Comforting like a sip of warm soup, tracks three to six [are] easy and pleasant. Tracks seven to 10 [are] as lethargic as the cold weather, while tracks 11 and 12 [are] as relieving as deep breaths. The last song is celebration: the rain will stop, and it will come and stop again,” he says.

Unlike other playlists that invite melancholic recalls, this one will make you remember only the best memories you’ve ever had. Now, wouldn’t you like that?
