In 2019, if you don’t call yourself a feminist or don’t understand what it is, please reconsider and read up. Wanting to change the perspective of men, razor brand Gillette released an ad titled “We Believe: The Best Men Can Be.” Here, they bring up issues like sexual harassment and toxic masculinity. They also show scenarios wherein men show off their power in the workplace by mansplaining and how we laugh off harassment shown on TV shows.
With the intention of wanting to remind men to be better human beings, these men missed the point completely. After watching the video, I went through the comments section and it made my ears hot and I could feel my blood boiling.
Netizens went off and displayed gross behavior.
They also pointed out that Gillette’s audience is male and that they will be losing customers.
And, sadly, many poked fun at feminism.
It’s disheartening to see all these ignorant comments but this gives us even more reason to continue educating others about feminism and equality.
