#DeathPenaltyForRape tops PH trends to call justice for student’s rape-slay

Trigger warning: This story will report on a gruesome rape case that happened recently. If you are uncomfortable with this, we suggest you click away now.

Last Monday, a 16-year-old student was found dead in an empty Cebu lot without any pants, sustained multiple stab wounds, and her skull was exposed. Police said that she had been raped and believe her face was skinned so she wouldn’t be identified. They are currently looking for the three suspects who abducted her on Sunday.

The victim’s mother said that she left home at 4 p.m. on Sunday and didn’t come home. Witnesses told police that they saw three men on motorcycles who brought her to the lot at around 2 a.m. on Monday. Some also claimed to have seen the stabbing.

This incident is disturbing and no one deserves to go through this type of hell. People have the same sentiments and started the hashtag “#DeathPenaltyForRape,” calling for the legalization of the death penalty for rapists. Many of its supporters are also women—one tweeted, “Kapag buhay ang kinuha, buhay din ang kapalit.” (When you claim a life, you pay with your life.)

That said, what are your thoughts on this? Should the government bring back the lethal injection to punish rapists? Personally, I’m not for it but feel free to share your feelings, negative reactions, etc.
