Here’s one thing all Filipinos look forward to: The Holy Week break. Beyond its religious significance, we treat it as a sacred time. I don’t care what your beliefs are, you should hit pause on work come this time. Aside from a time of reflection, it gives as a much needed rest from the stress of our jobs. For most, the four-day holiday is almost as big a deal as Christmas, and plan their trips or itineraries way ahead. But there are also those who, like me, tend to just be spontaneous. Though we sometimes have defined plans, my family generally likes to wing it (now I know why I’m like this), and this year’s Holy Week is no exception. We have plans, sure. But nothing’s set in stone yet. Honestly, I personally would love to just sleep until Easter. But I am open to suggestions.
So for our Preen Picks this week, I asked the people here in our office about their plans for the . If you’re like me who’s still unsure about how to spend Holy Week, read on. Maybe their answers might inspire you too.
Binge-watch
When it comes to Netflix, I’m more of a Western sitcom person than anything else. But lately, I wanted to drift away from the usual cycle, and so I thought of trying Asian dramas. It’s been ages since I last watched an Asian romcom, and I still can’t believe that I’m currently obsessed with Chinese drama A Love So Beautiful. As a fickle person, I almost stopped watching within the first 20 minutes of the first ep because I felt like it’s too young for me (also: cringey), but I gave the whole episode a chance and it was the best decision I made this month! Almost a week down and I’m halfway through, and I’m just so thrilled to finish it this break. If you’ve ever experienced that intense high school puppy love and have done really embarrassing things to make someone like you back, this is a very well-executed narrative on the ins and outs of it. It’s the most addicting show I’ve found. – Jelou Galang, Junior Content Creator, Scout
Finishing Love, Death, and Robots and rewatching some MCU movies to bring up my hype more for Avengers Endgame – Argyl Leones, Video Editor
Catch up on some zzz’s
I’m actually more of a cold weather person, so maybe half of the vacation would be going to Tagaytay to have hot chocolate or coffee and enjoy the cold. The other half would be staying at home, binge-watching, and catching up on my games like The Walking Dead game, Apex Legends, etc. Yeah, will definitely sleep at 6 a.m. everyday for this. – Bianca Pilar, Marketing Graphic Artist
I’m mostly planning to relax and catch up on sleep, and maybe read GOT and Avengers theories because I’m too excited for next week haha! My family’s also heading to the beach on Friday which is such a relief because the only time I tolerate this weather is when I’m by the sea – Xenia Sebial, Account Executive
Chill at the beach
[I’m] spending the week at Baler! It’s honestly my favorite beach town. Got a head start last Monday and we’re leaving on Thursday when the people start to flock in. [We’re] surfing for sure. Our family is also planning to explore nearby towns like Dipaculao and Casiguran so it’s going to be an adventure – Tricia Guevara, Graphic Artist
[I’m] over at the beach in Tali with my relatives. Gotta soak up some sun. [We’re] mostly [planning on] going around in boats and swimming at the beach – Javier Lobregat, Photographer
Celebrate tradition with the fam
My mom and I have this annual Holy Week tradition of spending a day at our community church to pray and reflect on the Stations of the Cross. We’ve been doing this since I was five, I think. Afterwards we usually just hang out and binge watch our favorite chick flicks. It’s actually my favorite time of the year because everything’s so quiet and perfect for family time – Aanne Bulan, Content Creator, Nolisoli.ph, Northern Living, Southern Living
Explore new things
I’m going to Marinduque this week with friends to witness Moriones festival, hopefully. We’re planning to visit the white sand beach there, probably tour the city, visit some schools (not sure why my friend decided we’ll do so), and try local cuisine (yay, food trip!) – Karl Ressureccion, Account Executive
Detox
Mental health break! No social media, no work comms, just good old rest. I’ll also just be reconnecting with my friends and family. Maybe I’ll finish a book or two if I still have enough time. – Giselle Barrientos, Junior Content Creator, Scout
