Don’t know where to soul-search? Astrocartography may point you to the right direction

Astrology babes, listen up. Ever felt like a certain place “speaks” more to you than others? You know, like it has a certain energy that either deeply resonates with you and instantly makes you feel right at home, or just doesn’t agree with you? There might be more to it than you might think. Yes, the planets affect you in more ways than one: personality, career, relationships… even your travels.

So if you’re thinking about moving, or simply about your next vacation destination, we have a wonderful tool that can help you with that: Astrocartography.

What is Astrocartography?

According to Travelling Light, it is a discipline of astrology also known as “Relocation Astrology,” “where your birth chart—which can predict a surprising amount of information about the direction and events of your life as well as your personality and make up—is mapped against the world map.”

It was established in 1978 by astrologer Jim Lewis, who believes that specific life experiences can be “activated” across different geographical locations, and it’s something we can read through astrocartography. In his book, Astrocartography: The Book of Maps, he explained, “astrocartography enables a person to determine which parts of the natal chart potential will be accented, highlighted, or bought into consciousness in a new location.”

Essentially, it tells the type of major life changes that would most likely happen when you go to a different place.

Terms to know about

The MapThought Co stresses, “An astrocartography map is usually the entire planet, but you can also get a map for each hemisphere.”

Birth ChartIt’s a snapshot of where the planets were on the Wheel of the Zodiac when you were born. Aside from the planet affecting your personality and everyday life, Refinery29 notes, “Knowing which planets may have that “heavy” influence is your first step to reading your map.”

The Planetary Lines – Each planet has four positions or angles: the AC (ascendant), DC (Descendant), IC (Immuni coeli), and MC (Medi Coeli). The IC/MC lines, run north/south, and the Asc/Dsc lines curve from east to west. These lines indicate the areas of the world that were heavily influenced by the planets at the time of your birth.

Astrologist Kimberly Peta Dewhirst explains to Refinery29 that “the first two are a sort of pair, since the AC reflects your self, while the DC reflects other people and your relationships with them.” Additionally, “The former represents your past—your ancestry and where you come from. The latter represents your path in life and your career.”

How does it work?

You can look up your personal Astrocartography map online. All you have to do is input your birth place, time, and date. On the map, you will see 40 lines, which can understandably get pretty confusing. Basically, what you need to know is that “the places that fall on lines or line intersections are supposed to be more meaningful, powerful, transformative for you,” like Travelling Light put it. Depending on which line/s fall there, a place can either be very good for you, or they can be very challenging in a certain area of your life—it depends on the planet.

Refinery29 further stresses, “the angles are like different channels through which the planets project their energy.”

Before you try this, keep in mind that locational astrology has its limits. Kimberly points out, “Locational astrology is a highly personal form of planetary interpretation and booking a one-on-one reading with an astrologer will give you a much clearer idea of how different parts of the world will affect you.”

And, ultimately, remember that astrology is just a guide. While it could prove helpful, it shouldn’t be your sole basis when making travel plans.
