Everybody’s talking about Euphoria on the internet—not just the show, but also the unique makeup looks.
All the actresses in the show have distinct looks—mostly seen with their eye makeup—in the show. Doniella Davy, the makeup department head for the series, told Nylon she drew inspiration from Gen Z and the experimental makeup you’d see in editorials and Instagram. “[Each] and every makeup look has a conscious emotional meaning behind it. Glitter and rhinestones don’t always mean ‘fun,'” she said.
Probably the most popular character and makeup inspo in the show is Jules (Hunter Schafer). She is a trans teenager who is the new girl in school. She’s known for sporting neon and pastel eyeshadows, and graphic lines to create abstract details. Nylon noted that throughout the series, Jules’ makeup goes from “colorful and hopeful” to something darker to signify her struggles.
A common denominator to Jules’ looks are the use of white eyeliner. No, it wasn’t used on the waterline to brighten up the eyes. She would apply the liner on the crease, paired with a canary yellow shadow, and even drew clouds on the edges of her eyes.
These eye looks are simple, but add a bold element to your overall makeup. Some beauty gals from publications like Into the Gloss and Buzzfeed even tried recreating them for a “I tried Euphoria makeup for a week” challenge.
Blogger and YouTuber Camie Juan was also obsessed with it that she made a winged liner out of it after watching Euphoria.
A rising makeup trend for 2019
White eyeliner is definitely a unique color to pull off. Even though it’s usually used on the waterline, but now, many are finding more ways to incorporate it to their looks. Fenty global makeup artist Priscilla Ono told Refinery29 that you should “treat it like any other bright shade and keep the rest of your makeup minimal.”
Aside from Jules in Euphoria, several celebrities were also spotted rocking the white liner look since 2018. You have the likes of Janelle Monáe during Paris Fashion Week, Sophie Turner at a Dark Phoenix fan event, and Margot Robbie at the London premiere of I, Tonya last year.
