A toast to the simple work feats that are worth the night out

Hey there, working people. Stressed? Tired? Feel like you need a break but don’t deserve one?

It’s totally fine. Work is tough. Being a part of the labor force can be hard on you, especially with tons of deliverables on your plate. There are a lot of things you still have to work on, and they just never seem to stop piling up. While productivity is good,  what I discovered is it’s always necessary to remember to celebrate the small things. Not everything is about accomplishing something huge or mind-blowing. There are times when the joy comes from the simple feats.

If you feel like you haven’t done as much as you expected, don’t fret. Work is about growth and learning, just as much as it is about delivering on time, getting a promotion, or earning a raise. Backtrack on your week and you’ll slowly realize that there are more wins to your hard work than you give yourself credit for.

This is what I realized when I went to San Mig Light’s #SMLAllNight party—it was the perfect place to do the trick. With good music, familiar company, and great beer, it surely felt like a rewarding night for me and my barkada. And after experiencing an #SMLAllNight event, great nights don’t always have to be because of something big. With the valuable conversations and fun dancing that happened in Eastwood, it can also be because of something good. Big or small.

So suck it up and give yourself a pat on the back for all those simple accomplishments. Need help with the recall? Here are some work triumphs worth celebrating.

The compliment from your boss

Remember that meeting when your boss threw a couple of nice words to you? Whether it’s a simple “Good job” or “I appreciate your work”, these are the simple drives to further motivate you to do better. You may think it’s unnecessary, but once you receive them, you’ll feel like floating for sure—and of course, celebrating.

Downing a few drinks to this at #SMLAllNight was the best feeling. After that last meeting of the week, we all headed to the party that weekend and just enjoyed the night life. I mean, what could get any better than Kylie Versoza herself handing you a beer, dressed like an angel?

Meeting deadlines

Oh yes. There’s nothing like meeting those deadlines to your countless deliverables, even if it’s by the second. When the going gets tough (like those deliverable cut-offs), beating them is the best feeling in the world, even if you have more to follow through the next week.

So when SM Youth alums MVRXX and Alwyn Cruz’ DJ threw in an unexpected remix of IV of Spades’ “Mundo,” and threw their beers in the air for a toast, all those met deadlines for the week felt like huge victories. Everyone at #SMLAllNight made a toast to a good night and a good life.

Speaking up

I don’t know about you but I still find it difficult to voice out my opinions at work, especially if you don’t know whether or not you have the right insights. But comments are comments, and ideas are ideas. If you had something you knew would benefit the project you’re currently working on, or have qualms about the deals you’re handling, speaking up was definitely the right move. And I bet it helped your team a lot.

Cheers to that! Meetings definitely became easier with my team. Which is why we danced the night away at Eastwood for the #SMLAllNight party, especially when the marching band came out. San Mig Light definitely knows how to party. Unicyclists and circus acts? Uh, yes please. It definitely spiced up the night further.

Helping a colleague

When a colleague comes to you for advice, it can always be a great feeling because you know that your hard work is showing. So when you’re able to help out a co-worker, it’s not just their feat, it’s yours too. Remember, personal growth also stems from how you communicate with others. And you make good friends too!

So when one of my barkadas ordered another round of San Mig Light on him during the party, I just knew we were on another level of friendship. It was all smiles and fun, and nobody’s nose buried in their phones. Everyone was having a good time.

Accomplishing something new

Everybody has job descriptions. That’s how you applied in the first place, right? There are always specific work tasks assigned to you. But you know the best feeling? Doing something that is not in your job description and being great at it. There are inevitable times when you gotta do what you gotta do, work your way through tasks that you barely signed up for. But coming out triumphantly? Oh yeah, it feels great.

#SMLAllNight capped off that feeling. The excitement of new work feats, the joy of just hanging out with your colleagues outside of work, and just relishing the sweet music from different artists like Kiana Valenciano made everything that happened in the week worth it. Especially for those of us who have never been to music festivals, this one was pretty close. And it was darn good.

The San Miguel Light #SMLAllNight party series were nights to remember. It was the perfect time for  all the music, dancing, and San Mig Light beer—exactly what I needed to celebrate those simple milestones.
