Model-actress Michelle Dee was crowned Miss World Philippines 2019 last night and the whole country celebrated her victory. She’ll be representing the country in London on Dec. 14.
At just 23 years old, Michelle has done a lot in the fashion industry as a model and endorser. She’s also starred in shows like “Because I Love You” and “Love You Two” on GMA. Now, she’s gearing up for an international pageant just like her mom, Melanie Marquez, did when she joined and won Miss International 1979.
But for those who want to know more about Michelle, here are some fun facts for you.
Already a model as a baby
Melanie Marquez appeared on a magazine cover carrying baby Michelle in one arm. This just gave a whole new meaning to bringing your kid to work.
Loves to take polaroid photos
During the Miss World Philippines Q&A, Michelle talked about her love for taking polaroid photos. If you look at her Instagram feed, you’ll see several shots taken from her Instax. Guess it’s true that she has an eye for old-school art forms.
An advocate for kids with autism
In a vlog posted last April, Michelle shared her story about growing up with two siblings with autism, and the struggle of watching them be judged by society. So, for her 24th birthday, she collaborated with Center for Possibilities, Inc. to help build a school for special needs children in Sagada. “It’s not enough for me to just sit by and hope things will get better for them. We need more people to ask better questions. We need more people to understand,” she said.
Gets around on a motorcycle
Michelle has a #ducadee (a play on Ducati) IG Stories Highlights where she’s riding and cleaning her motorcycle. She doesn’t just ride it along EDSA, she also does courses. We have an adrenaline junkie here.
Supports the LGBT community
“I hear you, I support you, and I will always march with you. Let’s keep making waves together. So proud of the #LGBT community!!!” Michelle wrote on her Pride March 2018 photo. We love a beauty queen who’s an ally!
She can kick your butt in boxing
Michelle’s workout of choice is boxing. She trains in a gym and even at home before shoots. So don’t mess with her!
Her cousin is also a beauty queen
Michelle is related to Winwyn Marquez, who was the first Filipina to win Miss Reina Hispanoamericana in 2017. It’s safe to say that pageantry really runs in their family.
