Patty Ang started professionally pursuing her love for fashion after graduating from De La Salle University in 2013. She then enrolled at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines and Central Saint Martins in London before launching her own brand, Atelier Patty Ang.
She is known for her stunning RTW collections as well as bespoke evening and bridal wear. On top of recent expansions of her perpetually busy atelier in BGC and Rockwell’s Power Plant Mall, she also has her own e-commerce website.
Her designs have been worn by the who’s who of Philippine society, spotted numerous times on Hollywood’s red carpet and was in fact included in Vanity Fair’s Cannes 2017 Best Dressed list. Atelier Patty Ang is spreading its trademark cape wings and going global, targeting other parts of Asia, Europe, and the States.
And this time, it’s taking over Hollywood as well, as we spotted American supermodel Chrissy Teigen wearing—not just one, but two Atelier Patty Ang pieces!
The model and host wore Patty’s creations at the finale of NBC’s “Bring the Funny,” and to her 13th wedding anniversary celebration with singer John Legend in Paris.
These were big moments for Patty as a designer and for her brand, and of course, Philippine fashion going international. And we were able to chat with her about the whole thing!
Can you tell us about the two Atelier Patty Ang pieces that Chrissy Teigen wore?
Chrissy Teigen wore two of my absolute favorites from the Fall/Winter 2018 collection. She wore a custom Elliot Coat with a slip dress which is made the organza and ostrich feathers. The second piece was a custom Willow Capelet with a slip dress that is made with exquisite embellishments and is also complemented with feathers.
What was your reaction when you heard that Chrissy Teigen was wearing your pieces?
I guess it goes without saying that any admirer would feel ecstatic when they are noticed by the people they look up to. In my case, I have always been a fan of Chrissy Teigen ever since “America’s Next Top Model.” I mean, who doesn’t love her? She’s a multi-talented individual with a very influential personality. When I heard the news of her possibly wearing our clothes, I felt overjoyed and nervous at the same time, because we had this mindset that we had to exceed or at least meet her expectations. Fortunately, everything went well and we were grateful for the opportunity.
Any future plans for Atelier Patty Ang?
We are thankful for how our brand is growing, and little by little we are getting our name on the map. I can also say that we are being presented with a lot of opportunities internationally, and I think we’re slowly achieving our goal to create a lasting and powerful global impression. The mission for us is to sustain and improve this status. We believe we can do that by strengthening our e-commerce and overall social media presence abroad and of course by continuously offering unique and exquisite pieces for our clientele.
